When Lauren and Hector started off legislation faculty in 2000, they have been in the identical segment, and they sat next to each and every other in Civil Method, which was taught by then-Dean John Sexton, Benjamin F. Butler Professor of Regulation.

In 2007, the two married in New Orleans, where Hector grew up and the place they now are living. Lauren’s maid of honor was Shoshanna Bannett ’03, who’s now godmother to one of Lauren and Hector’s two daughters.

Each Lauren and Hector get the job done as clinical legislation professors. Lauren teaches the Environmental Law Clinic at Tulane University, and Hector leads the Youth Justice Clinic at Loyola College, New Orleans. He not long ago been given the Gault Middle’s Robert E. Shepherd Jr. Management Award for Excellence in Youth Defense.   

Their younger daughter has Down Syndrome, and the spouse and children spends a large amount of time volunteering for athletic leagues and other activities arranged for youngsters with particular wants. When they can squeeze in a lunch split at operate, Lauren and Hector like to take in sandwiches jointly at the close by Audubon Zoo. 

“We’ll usually meet by the sea lions,” says Hector. “They are like the golden retrievers of the ocean. They are so funny and consistently messing with every other. David and Andrea satisfied in January 1970 in Hayden Hall. “Andrea experienced an arrangement with my roommate to give him notes if he missed class,” states David. “One night, she knocked on the door to give him notes and he was not in. I was, and that is how we achieved.”

Andrea and David started out learning with each other, usually with David’s roommate, and as time went on, they created a more robust and more powerful marriage. Normally, when they had been learning late with each other, just one would walk above to a bodega on 6th Avenue to pick up slices of Sara Lee chocolate cake to share. For the duration of their to start with summer season in New York, David drove a taxi and Andrea worked at the Working towards Legislation Institute, a nonprofit continuing authorized instruction organization. As the Vietnam War continued, they joined countless numbers of college or university college students marching in Washington, DC in protest. 

The few obtained married in Andrea’s hometown of Philadelphia in 1971, just right before their 3L 12 months. In 2016, they moved to Los Angeles, the place their two kids and grandchildren reside. David continues to work with corporate consumers part-time, and Andrea volunteers at a regional library. “More than nearly anything, we delight in being with our grandsons. They are the lights of our life,” claims Andrea. “We have designed a group of buddies right here, but we keep on to our good friends back again East. So we have a foot on both equally coasts.”

For Benoît and Sylvia, their Introduction to American Regulation course also released them to every single other. Sylvia had occur to NYU Law from Peru, and  Benoît from France. Their wedding ceremony took position at New York Town Hall on May 11, 2000—which was also the day of NYU Graduation. Their close friends celebrated the marriage in caps and robes. The upcoming working day, at NYU Regulation Convocation, Benoît remembers, “John Sexton—who was law university dean at the time—knew that we experienced gotten married the day before. So at graduation, he had us be the incredibly final types to come on phase, and hood each other. There ended up about 10,000 people clapping. For us, our spouse and children, and our buddies, it was genuinely exceptional.” 

Put up-graduation, Benoît and Sylvia lived in Manhattan for a yr, during which their daughter, the first of three little ones, was born. The family invested seven many years in London, wherever they had their 2nd daughter, just before shifting to Paris, exactly where their son was born and the place they are living now. Benoît operates as a corporate lover at worldwide legislation organization DS Avocats, and Sylvia has a catering small business. 

The couple still keeps in touch with and holidays with many close friends from NYU Legislation, Benoît suggests. He has served as president of the NYU Alumni Club in France since 2014, and much more not too long ago he was appointed to the Intercontinental Alumni Board of the Law University. Sylvia and Benoît say they glance ahead to returning to Washington Square next 12 months to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their graduation and wedding.
