Removal of some Hamilton Greenbelt areas spurs public consultations

Eager to voice your belief about the 795 hectares of Hamilton’s Greenbelt land taken by the province?

The provincial land and advancement facilitator has asked for opinions from Hamilton on how Greenbelt lands will be developed. The Town of Hamilton is looking for input from the public about the three places removed from the Greenbelt by the province. The public opinions will be presented at the unique preparing committee conference on Thursday, Sept. 14 setting up at 6:30 p.m. at the Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre. Then it will be submitted to the provincial land and growth facilitator.

The Town reported the lands taken out from the Greenbelt location are various from the 2,200 hectares of land that Ontario additional to Hamilton’s Urban Boundary in November 2022 . The provincial decision went from Metropolis council’s endorsement of a “No City Boundary Expansion” expansion alternative, according to the Metropolis on its site.

The following are the 3 Hamilton lands eradicated from the Greenbelt:

  • E book Street Lands: The major place eradicated from the Greenbelt in Hamilton at 727 hectares in measurement with 185 hectares discovered as a “core area” with major woodlands and wetland.
  • Whitechurch Lands: These lands are 64 hectares south of Hamilton’s new urban boundary, southeast of Mount Hope. The lands are not determined as a core place.
